A couple of weeks ago we celebrated our sweet Blair’s 1st Birthday! Of course we knew from the start that this definitely wouldn’t be a normal 1st birthday. With COVID and the fact that we live across the world from our families meant there probably wouldn’t be a large party or grand celebration. However, I was not going to let that stop us from making her day as special and memorable as we could!
I know what you’re going to say…that Blair won’t remember the fact that we didn’t have a big party or that we spent her first birthday “alone”. But guess what?! I will!!! It’s no secret that 1st birthdays are usually for the parents and the families, rather than the child, but so what?! It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate the wonderful year we’ve had as a new family and reflect on how far we have come together.
With that being said, I decided to put together a little party at home for the 3 of us. We invited our friends and families to join virtually on Zoom to wish Blair a Happy 1st Birthday, and we honestly had the best time! Of course, we had to make it Bee themed for our B baby, so I planned “B’s First Bee Bash”. It was fully equipped with a balloon arch, a beehive cake, matching family outfits, flower crowns, and one seriously tricked out trike!
The Decor
Believe it or not, almost all of the decor pieces I bought came from Amazon! I saw this DIY balloon arch kit and bought it almost immediately. While I am a pretty crafty person, don’t let something like this intimidate you if you want to try one at home! It is WAY easier than it looks, trust me! It only took Ryan and I maybe an hour and a half to blow up all the balloons, assemble the arch, and secure it to the wall. Granted we had a balloon pump, (haha) but I still feel like it was rather quick! I also LOVED the cute banner that housed all of her monthly photos- it was so fun to look back on all of those throughout the day.
The Cake
Okay the best part about our party was hands down this AH-mazing cake! I mean, how flipping cool is this?! It was so beautiful I didn’t even want to cut it. The cake was definitely a lot bigger than we needed for just 3 people, but hey, you only turn 1 once, right?! We chose to go with a chocolate cake and an Oreo cream cheese filling… and let me tell you, it was the most delicious cake EVER!
Her Gift
Ryan and I were looking forward to giving Blair her birthday gift for weeks! We saw this trike back when we were shopping for our carseat during my pregnancy, and we have loved it ever since. We thought it would be something that we would use every single day and something that Blair would absolutely love. I am happy to report that we have been using it daily over the last 2 weeks and so far it has lived up to the hype! It folds down into backpack-size so it’s easy to transport, comes with a cupholder for Blair, and is capable of growing with her over the next few years. I love it!
The Birthday Girl
It’s safe to say that B was living her best birthday life. She has really gotten to understand the concept of FaceTime and Zoom (thanks, COVID 🙄) so she was LOVING seeing everyone on the computer and waving hi to them! We obviously gave her a piece of birthday cake after we sang to her and she was in absolute heaven! She will definitely be a chocolate lover like her parents. We are truly blessed with the sweetest, friendliest little girl and are so so lucky to have her in our lives! We hope she enjoyed the virtual birthday party as much as we did!
