Have you ever had one of those special moments in your life, the kind where you just knew that everything after this would change your life forever? Whether it was your wedding day, the birth of your child, or any other life-altering moment, I think it’s safe to say you would do anything to hold onto this moment and all of the memories that go along with it, am I right?
Behold…The Night Sky! I mean, how cool is this?!
I bought one of these Star Maps to give to Ryan for our first anniversary back in June, thinking it would make the most perfect “paper” gift to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Boy, was I right! Ryan absolutely LOVED this gift and thought it would make a fabulous addition to our home. Okay, he never actually said the word “fabulous”, but I’m paraphrasing here, people! Personally, I think this could be such a great focal piece in a gallery wall along with other wedding photos or mementos. But for the sake of full transparency here, Ryan and I still have not ordered, let alone hung any of our weddings photos yet (haha), so this piece of art will be hanging solo for the time being. 🙈
The Star Map
The Night Sky allows you to create and personalize your very own star map! Now I know what you’re thinking here…you’re probably thinking how insanely time-consuming and difficult this must be to create. WRONG! I’m a sucker for meaningful gifts like this but believe me, I’m not the most technically sound woman in the world. However, I can assure you that this was incredibly quick and easy to create. Aside from the personal touches, you don’t have to do any of the hard work. You do, however, have the choice of background options, adding in constellations, writing a personal message, and more!
How They Do It
The Night Sky utilizes the star catalog of the European Space Agency’s Hipparcos mission. Yeah…that’s quite a mouthful, I know. Basically, this is a high precision catalog of stars generated by the Hipparcos telescope. The catalog is used to render the position of the stars from any location as well as from any date in the past, present, or future. Totally awesome, right?!
Why I Love It
This is one of the most unique and personal items I have ever come across! There’s something so intimate about this piece of art that makes me fall in love with it all over again each time I look at it. Our wedding day (as I’m sure you other married peeps will understand) was the best day of my life thus far. Therefore, I have been clinging to anything and everything that brings me back to that special day.
While pictures, videos, and mementos are wonderful, this artwork brings things to a whole new level. This art gives me a completely different visual representation of our wedding day. I can forever gaze into this map and see what the sky looked like on the day we said, “I do”. I am able to go back and see the stars we stood under when we became husband and wife. On that day, our lives changed forever, and now I will always have a snapshot in time and space of that life-altering moment. I mean…WOW! It doesn’t get much better than this, does it?
