Luebeck Christmas Market 2019 | Photo Diary

Hey ya’ll! Can you believe we are less than two weeks away from Christmas?! I mean, where did this year go?! It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating Halloween and then… BAM, it’s Christmas-time. Ryan and I just spent two days walking around the Christmas Market here in Lübeck and we had SO much fun together. It really put us in the holiday spirit, as the jolly-ness is practically contagious over here!

We look forward to this every single year- it is our absolute favorite thing to do here in Germany. It’s hard to believe we just attended our 5th Christmas Market together, and it’s even harder to believe this will be our last holiday season as a family of two. Nevertheless, I’ve compiled a little photo diary of our time at the market this year and I am thrilled to share it with you all today!

The Food

In my opinion, the food is probably the #1 reason to attend the Christmas Markets! And there is definitely no shortage of food stands to choose from. It is so fun to eat your way through the market and sample a little bit of everything as you go. It’s pretty typical to find wursts, meats, flatbread, fish, candies, chocolate-covered fruits, roasted nuts, crepes, and lots more. No matter what you decide to get, chances are pretty high that it’s going to be good! A personal favorite of ours is the Nutella Crepes!

The Drinks

There are always lots of yummy drinks to choose from in addition to the amazing food. While they always have water, sodas, beer, eierpunsch and hot chocolate readily available, drinking anything other than glühwein would just be a sin! If you are unfamiliar, glühwein is a mulled red wine that is served hot and it is definitely the drink of choice for most Market-goers. If you’re feeling extra sassy, you can even add rum into your glühwein (Ryan’s personal preference). While I had to forgo the alcoholic beverages this year due to the little babe on the way, Ryan enjoyed some for both of us!

The Shopping

Hands down, the best place to buy some souvenirs, ornaments, Christmas decorations, and one-of-a-kind items is right here! Craftsmen set up their huts at the Market to display their hand-made ornaments, nutcrackers, woodwork, and more! It’s so fun to walk around and admire all of the unique and beautiful pieces. I absolutely adore all of the ornaments you can find here- the ornament of the Christmas Market hut (seen below) was definitely a favorite of mine this year! If you wish to do any shopping while here, this is definitely the place to be.

The Atmosphere

Visiting a Christmas Market in Germany is the quintessential Christmas activity, as it fully captures the true meaning of the holidays. It’s about visiting with friends and family and sharing a drink together. It’s about shopping for a meaningful one-of-a-kind item that you might gift to a loved one or add to your personal collection. They’re about embracing the simple joys of the holiday season, such as admiring the lights and decorations or indulging in some of your favorite treats. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the Christmas season and fully embrace the essence of the holidays! No matter how many times we visit the Christmas Markets, they never fail to put the biggest smile on my face and put me in the Holiday Spirit!
