Daytime Dates

Happy Friday! For many people, Friday night is the time to let loose and forget about all things work-related, and for couples, it is the night they can finally go out together and catch up after a busy week. If you’re anything like me, Friday night usually isn’t any different than Monday night or Wednesday night. Our Friday nights are usually spent at home, on the couch with chocolates, and heading off to bed early in order to rest and prepare for an upcoming game that weekend. Maybe you or your spouse work during the evenings, or maybe one of you has to work on the weekend. Whatever your case might be, sometimes having a date night with your spouse just isn’t possible.

Ryan and I have sometimes struggled to find a night where we could go out on a date together. Because of this, we believe we have become proficient in the art of Day-Dating! Below, I have compiled a list of my top 10 favorite daytime dates for you. I hope these inspire you to get out in the daytime and try something new. Happy Dating!

My Top 10 Daytime Dates

  1. Go for a bike ride. During our first year living in Germany, Ryan and I didn’t own a car. So for a while, our bikes were our only source of transportation. We absolutely loved it in the summer, and totally despised it in the winter. When we eventually got our car, we didn’t take our bikes out for quite some time. Needless to say, we were all biked-out! However, every once in a while when we are experiencing a gorgeous day outside, we cannot wait to break out our bikes and take a ride together.
  2. Have a picnic in the park. Sometimes we combine this with our bike rides. Our favorite picnic meal? BLT sandwiches with potato chips and champagne! During our picnics, we usually bring a deck of cards, a portable speaker for music, and a ball for Ryan (obviously). Don’t forget to bring a blanket or a towel to sit down on! No one likes a damp or grass-stained bum.
  3. Take a trip to the Zoo. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! I don’t care how old you are…everyone likes the Zoo. Seriously, who doesn’t enjoy this? Hold hands, walk around, and practice your animal noises while you’re busy observing nature’s animals in all their glory.
  4. …or the Aquarium. Must I repeat my Zoo rant?
  5. Workout together. This is something I wish Ryan and I did more of on a regular basis. When we do find the time, our personal favorite activity to do together is partner yoga! It’s a great way to relax, clear our heads, and really connect with one another, while also getting a great workout in. Whether you’re into jogging, CrossFit, biking, or some other activity, getting active together is something we would recommend to all couples.
  6. Markets. Flea markets, farmer’s markets… well, you get the idea. Nothing says “I love you” quite like digging through antique furniture together or picking out the best fruit for the pie you’re going to make later.
  7. Go to a museum. Cold, quiet, and usually old. Okay, I’ll admit, this might not be the “hot and steamy” date you’re after. However, if you live in a large city like I do, your hometown may be crawling with museums for you to check out. Who knows, you might even learn something new together.
  8. Take a hike together. The smell of nature, the sound of birds chirping, and the hot sun on your back. Pack up some snacks and waters and get those legs moving people! Ladies, if you get tired, just ask your man for a piggyback ride to give yourself a break. You may get dirty or sweaty but on the plus side, you can always check each other for ticks when you get home (wink, wink).
  9. Go out for ice cream. Chocolate…sprinkles…need I say more?
  10. Spend an afternoon in Ikea. Okay, it may sound silly, but trust me on this! Wait for a rainy or utterly freezing day when you have nothing else to do, and head to your nearest Ikea. Ryan and I always have such fun walking around the store, pointing out the pieces we would love to have in our home, and even making fun of some of the god-awful things we find. There’s just something super entertaining about walking through the model rooms and envisioning what your future home may look like. Oh, and don’t forget to grab a hot dog before you leave. If you didn’t eat an Ikea hot dog, it never happened!
